Live Forever!
Life is defined by the Webster Dictionary as " the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body."
Some people live a few years, some many years. Some children die young, even at birth. The average life span is 70 years but none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. At any moment, our life on this earth could be gone. Then what? Have you considered what will happen to you when your time on earth is up? Have you ever thought about whether there is life after death?
There is one God who created the universe and all that is in it." In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1. It belongs to Him and He is in control of it all. He gets to decide when our time on earth is up and then we die. When we die, we will face Him and our eternal existence depends on what we have already chosen while on earth.
When God created the first man and woman, he created them in his image and gave them something the other living things did not have, a soul. "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 He placed them in a beautiful garden and made man the ruler of all that He had created. They were able to walk and talk with their creator. God only asked one thing of them; they weren't allowed to eat the fruit of a certain tree in the garden. Man couldn't obey that one simple rule; both man and woman ate of the fruit and sentenced themselves to death and separation from God. They would no longer walk with God in the garden. God is perfect and Holy and cannot allow sin in His presence. This separation and sin was passed down from generation to generation. Every person since the first two people have been born into sin." For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. There is nothing that we can do to prevent inheriting the sin and, the punishment for our sin is death. "The wages of sin is death;" Romans 6:23a. But, there is a way to be reunited with God.
You see, even though man sinned and was separated from God, God still loves man. He loves us so much that He gave His very best for us, His son, Jesus. "But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord" Romans 6:23b. Jesus was born, lived a sinless life on earth, died and rose again so that we can be reunited with God. "God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!" Romans 5:8. Jesus suffered and died so that we can live.
So, who can receive this gift of eternal life? The Bible says "Whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" Romans 10:13. Whoever includes all of us, no one is left out. It doesn't matter how sinful you have been in your life, God still loves you and Jesus died for You. How do you get this eternal life? "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved" Romans 10:9.
To receive God's gift of eternal life, say a simple prayer from your heart, something like this:
Dear God, I know that I am sinner and I need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is your son and that He died to pay for my sins. I believe that you raised Him from the dead and that I can have eternal life because of His sacrifice. Please forgive me of my sins, come into my heart and be Lord of my life. In Jesus name, Amen
